I have [controversial] thoughts on this, because I’m sick of hearing about how everyone ships Buffy/herself or Buffy/happiness. What the hell? Buffy’s proven time and again that she does just fine on her own. She’s in a real relationship for a total of what, two-and-a-half seasons? Three, if you count Spuffy… And she doesn’t spend all her time mooning over boys the rest of the time, either. She’s also proven that she’s still her own person when she’s with a significant other, and more often, they’re the ones who seem dependent on her.

No, she isn’t Bella Swan. She’s strong and independent and she deserves love in her life, so if there are all these guys out there who love her and want to make her happy, she sure as hell can accept that. We all derive happiness from relationships. No one’s telling Giles to stay away from Buffy because she makes him happy, or Willow to stop being friends with Buffy because they give each other some happiness. And since Buffy doesn’t spend S1, S5, and S7 (most significantly) moping over her aloneness, I don’t see how this is in any way applicable.

STOP FORCING THIS STRONG, INDEPENDENT WOMAN, REGARDLESS OF THE SETTING, INTO ALONENESS.
